In trinity

Shortly afterwards, in1942, he fell in love with an 18-year old Scottish woman called Mary Mackenzie, his muse in several poems. He marries her and escapes, tired of the capital city, to the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile. There he teaches the miners of the town El Orito to read. In 1943, at the time of the birth of his first son, Rodrigo Tomas, they decide to migrate “in trinity” to the islands in the south of Chile, where he works in the timber industry.

After a year in the south, he returns to the capital and resumes his studies in philosophy and philology, together with working in the Information and Culture Office, and participating in the magazine “Antartica”, of which he becomes the head of the editorial staff.

In 1945, when he starts teaching literature at the German School in Valparaiso, he is invaded “in torrents by an imaginative army which was not surrealist but expressionist”, according to what he has pointed out.
